Protection mode

Protection is enabled when the operating system starts up, and is always found in the device's memory. Protection allows scanning of all files that are opened, saved and launched, and all apps that are installed.

The mode used by Protection to track changes in the file system in background mode and to scan it for malicious objects. The following Protection modes are available:

  • Extended. Protection scans for the presence of malicious objects when any action is performed on them (for example, when they are opened, run, copied, saved, moved, or modified). Protection scans new apps as soon as they are installed.
  • Recommended. Protection scans for the presence of malicious objects only in newly installed apps and does not scan other files or actions involving them. Protection scans new apps as soon as they are installed.
  • Disabled. Protection is disabled.

You can temporarily disable Protection to reduce load on the device when running several tasks concurrently.

Kaspersky Lab specialists do not recommend disabling Protection, as this could lead to the infection of your computer and loss of data.

Even if Protection is disabled, Anti-Virus can perform other functions, such as scanning the file system for viruses or updating anti-virus databases.
